Hub Notes: Similar Contexts, similar projects, 03/05/08

April 4, 2008

Today an independent curator who visited the Museum as Hub Space found the Museo Tamayo exhibition interesting. After approaching her with my usual, “Do you have any questions?”, she informed me that she had curated a show in Europe about housing complexes where the artists responded with projects almost exactly as the artists in Tlatelolco. The context of the show narrowed the content to site-specific works and considerations to be about how the complexes affected their residing communities and the dynamics of the people that lived there. One artist – like Paulina Lasa – she said, rented out a storefront space and held workshops, concerts, and lectures within it. Another artist made documentaries that detailed the lives of the residents within the complexes, much like Mark Powell’s photodocumentation of the Nonoalco – Tlatelolco residents.
